5 Reasons to Move to Texas

Texas is home to many of the country’s fastest-growing cities, with six making the most recent list of the top 20, including Frisco, Round Rock, McKinney, Sugar Land, Midland, and College Station.

It’s no wonder so many are choosing to make the move to Texas, with such a long list of reasons to do so, whether you’re thinking about buying one of the Fort Worth houses for sale or a place in any other city in the Lone Star state.

Booming Economy

The economy is booming in Texas, and job opportunities have been plentiful. The state’s long-standing ties to the energy sector have helped drive employment, with technology software and hardware firms growing rapidly, managing to lure businesses from other states. Healthcare, leisure and hospitality, retail trade, and professional services are some of the biggest employment sectors. The capital city of Austin is home to IBM, Apple, and Dell, while major employers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area include AT&T, Lockheed Martin, and American Airlines. Houston hosts over two dozen Fortune 500 companies.

It’s More Affordable

With lots of jobs and a much lower cost of living, including more affordable homes, even in the major cities, your dollar is going to go a lot farther in Texas. While the median listing home price in San Francisco, for example, is over $1.4 million, in San Antonio, one of the most popular Texas cities, it’s just over $240,000, while Houston’s median listing price for a home is $249,000. Groceries are cheaper than average in most places here, and you’re unlikely to have to pay too much for heating in most areas as well.

There’s No State Income Tax

Those savings are really going to add up by moving to Texas, as the state is also one of the most tax-friendly. Residents here don’t have to pay tax on their personal income, allowing them to use their hard-earned money for vacations, school tuition, retirement, and other expenses.

There’s Lots of Things to See and Do

You’re unlikely to get bored living in Texas. If you like sports, the state is home to many pro teams, including the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, the MLB’s Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers, and the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs, among others. The list of attractions is nearly endless, including many popular theme parks like Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio and Six Flags Over Texas in Dallas. There are opportunities to enjoy the outdoors at Big Ben National Park, explore history at The Alamo, and learn about space at the Johnson Space Center too. You can even hit the beach – with over 350 miles of coastline, there are plenty of sandy stretches, including Padre Island, one of the world’s longest undeveloped barrier islands with a national seashore that’s one of the state’s most underrated areas.

The Food

If you’re into delicious foods, particularly juicy BBQ and beef brisket, Tex-Mex, and chili, you’ll love it here. It goes well beyond the famous standards, however, with a diverse population resulting in a cuisine that can be enjoyed from across the globe. It would be hard to find a state with tastier, more eclectic dining options than Texas.
